Confidentiality
The laws of the Turks & Caicos Islands clearly state the offences that census officers can commit and the penalties for committing such offences. Therefore, census information collected by individuals from households cannot be discussed with, or given to anyone else, unless that person is in the position of authority to discuss such information. Census data will be aggregated at the highest possible level to maintain anonymity. This protects the identity of the respondent and enhances the confidentiality of the whole census.

Authority to Conduct Census
The Governor has the authority vested in him by the Census Ordinance (law) to direct that a Census be taken at an appointed date within the Turks & Caicos Islands.

Public Participation in Census
  • The Census Ordinance states that every person should give the information
requested of him/her to the best of his/her knowledge.
  • Enumerators should visit every household and complete a census
          questionnaire with the required information.
  • Householders, occupiers or owners should allow census officers entry to
their premises to carry out their duties in relation to the census.
  • Any person (s) who refuses to give information; give false or misleading
information; prevent access to premises by census officers; obstructs the
census officers in discharge of their duties or refuses to comply or neglect
any regulations is guilty of an offence and for each offence be liable on
conviction to pay a fine of $2,500.

Swine Flu is a new influenza-like illness (ILI) first detected in Mexico on March 18, 2009. Swine Flu can be spread through contact with infected pigs or environments contaminated with the virus. Human-to-human spread has also been documented and is thought to be transmitted through droplet infection when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
