TCI Population and Housing Census
TCI will be conducting a Population and Housing Census during the period January to February 2012 . Many changes in the social fabric of our country have taken place since that time.  All of these changes affect the demand for services. This census is therefore vitally important as it provides the data that will permit us to evaluate those changes and provide the benchmark data to help inform Government planning and formulate policies, programmes and strategies that will be used in the development of the TCI, for the benefit of persons living in these islands
What is a Population and Housing Census?

A population census is the total process of collecting, compiling, evaluating, analyzing and publishing or otherwise disseminating demographic, economic and social data pertaining, at a specified time, to all persons in a country or in a well delimited part of a country.

A housing census is the total process of collecting, compiling, evaluating, analyzing and publishing or otherwise disseminating statistical data pertaining, at a specified time, to all living quarters1 and occupants thereof in a country or in a well delimited part of a country.
Who provides the Census Information?
Ideally each responsible adult (18 years or older) in the household should be interviewed. However, this may not be possible because some persons may be out of the islands during the census period. In such cases any responsible adult will be interviewed provided that he/she knows all the required answers. The process may require revisits.
What are some of the Census Taking activities?

The entire process of taking a census involves a series of steps. These steps involves:

  1. Use of Enumeration Maps
  2. Use of Data Collection Instruments: - Visitation Record and Questionnaire.
  3. Face to face interviews.

The highest point in the Turks and Caicos Islands is located in the uninhabited island of East Caicos. On the north of East Caicos is Flamingo Hill with an elevation of 156 feet, while the dangerous Philips Reef guards the coast. The island is also best known for its plantation ruins and cave artwork.
