What is a Geographic Information System (GIS)?
GIS is a System of computer software, hardware
and data, and trained personnel to help manipulate,
analyze and present information that is tied to a
spatial location which is usually a geographic location.
In general, GIS is use mainly for data creation, data display, analysis
and output which includes cartographic-quality maps as well as reports, lists and graphs.
|
Major Uses of GIS in Census 2001:
Rapid boundary construction and modification;
Developed and refined enumerator walk maps to avoid duplication and ensure all dwellings are captured within each Enumeration District (ED);
Well-defined census area boundaries allowed seamless integration of census database with GIS database;
Provided basis for assembly of complex demographic and household indicators – reporting in maps, charts, tables, etc.

Swine Flu is a new influenza-like illness (ILI) first detected in Mexico on March 18, 2009. Swine Flu can be spread through contact with infected pigs or environments contaminated with the virus. Human-to-human spread has also been documented and is thought to be transmitted through droplet infection when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
