NEW PERMANENT SECRETARY FOR THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE (Cont'd.)

Minister of Finance and Deputy Premier, Hon. Floyd Hall in his statement hailed Coalbrooke as a straight shooter and a visionary. He credited him with helping the government make history in revenue collections over the past four years, raising the revenue collections from $98 million back in 2003 to over $215 million at the close of the fiscal year in March of this year. “That has been a giant leap forward for the Turks and Caicos Islands government for within such a short period the revenue of this country has grown by more than 100 %” said the Deputy Premier.

He praised Coalbrooke for his exemplary performance and his assistance in helping the Ministry of Finance and the government in carrying out its policy initiatives.

In a heartfelt speech Coalbrooke after serving for 36 years within the Public Service said, “Today I move on with great humility”. He encouraged young persons to approach work with an attitude of service. “You have to want to do this” he said. In speaking of his successor he said, “I have no doubt that Delton will bring the kind of worth and professionalism that is well needed for the position”.

In accepting the position of Permanent Secretary, Jones said, “I am looking forward to making a difference in the position. I know that persons are expecting great things from me but I have great expectations for myself”. He closed by saying that he looks forward to working with the Finance Minister in tackling their very aggressive development agenda.

Mr. Coalbrooke although no longer Permanent Secretary has been retained by the government as a consultant to the Finance Ministry and will serving in that capacity for the next year and a half.
