September 21, 2007, Providenciales- The final Workshop to discuss the Draft National 10 Year Development Plan prepared by Kairi Consultants will be held at the West Caicos Conference Room of Beaches Hotel on September 26 and 27th, 2007.
This final round of national consultations is the culmination of the process began eighteen months ago to prepare a National Development Plan for the Turks and Caicos Islands to systematically identify and address the current and prospective challenges the country faces and to better coordinate our national responses in line with resource availability. During the planning exercise a number of sectoral committees were established to review the problems and challenges in particular areas and sectors of the society and to recommend solutions. The sectoral consultations were followed by a first round of national consultations in which preliminary efforts were made to coordinate and prioritize the various recommendations and to achieve consensus on broad development goals and strategies. Out of these consultations the following documents have now been produced:
1. National Development Vision
2. Ten Year National Development Framework
3. National Development Strategies
4. Island Development Plans for each island (Grand Turk, Middle Caicos, North Caicos, Providenciales, Salt Cay, South Caicos)
5. An Implementation Plan - proposing a structure and methodology and outlining a schedule for implementing the various programs, policies and projects contained in the Plan.
6. The Medium Term Economic and Social Framework - a program of projects and policies to be implemented in the first three years of the Plan.
All of the above mentioned documents are posted on the website of the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics at www.depstc.org, and persons are encouraged to go onto the site and read them.
A summary of the main decisions, goals, objectives and programs contained in the Plan and approved at the workshop will be published in the media after the workshop.
