The main objective of the SoDV is to provide sample data for computing estimates of visitor expenditures in the Islands.
This statistics is a significant component of trade in services and is also an inflow in the Balance of
Payments. Also, the survey aims to provide data on the profile, behavior patterns, opinions and reactions of

visitors so as to inform marketing strategies and programs, to evaluate the tourism product, to monitor trends in the industry and to remain competitive.
The information extracted from the Survey can be useful to planners in:
analyzing trends and determining market share;
improving the tourism product;
designing effective market strategies and programmes;
monitoring progress and growth;
maintaining competitiveness;
reacting to market changes at short time;

Swine Flu is a new influenza-like illness (ILI) first detected in Mexico on March 18, 2009. Swine Flu can be spread through contact with infected pigs or environments contaminated with the virus. Human-to-human spread has also been documented and is thought to be transmitted through droplet infection when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
